"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God." This passage, though complicated, gives the precise timing of these momentous events.
The first 3-1/2 years after the signing of the covenant between Israel and the Antichrist is called "The Tribulation". After the first half is finished, the Antichrist will go into the soon to be built third Temple declaring and showing himself to be God. When he does this, it is called the Abomination of Desolation which begins the second half of the tribulation called "The Great Tribulation". It is at this point where religious Babylon has or soon will be destroyed and the Mark of the Beast has been or shortly will be implemented. Everyone will be required to worship the beast by taking his mark and pledging their loyalty to the beast or be beheaded by the guillotine. (Rev. 20 v.4) Abomination of Desolation
"The Abomination" takes place when the Roman Antichrist enters the Holiest Place of the soon to be rebuilt Jerusalem Temple, takes his seat on the Ark of the Covenant, and proclaims himself to be God.
In the Olivet discourse, Jesus said, "Therefore when you see the "abomination of desolation," spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the Holy place" (Mat 24 v.15) our Lord had in mind the passage in Daniel where it is written: "Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week, (this is clear in numerous verses that the time period will be 7 years) but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate" (Dan 9 v.27)
And a little later, "and forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation" (Dan 11 v.31). The apostle Paul said it this way: "Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, (a reference to the apostate church - or a falling away of faith) and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposed and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God" (2 Thess 2 v.3-4).
NOTE: The first 7 early translations of the bible used the word departure instead of falling away.
